Prince Harry appeared to be in his comfort zone as he took the stage alone at a charity event, with Meghan Markle noticeably absent, according to body language expert Judi James.
Last week, the Duke of Sussex attended the Santa Barbara One805Live!event, organized by actor Kevin Costner, which honors the heroic actions of first responders. During the awards, Harry presented an award to a fellow helicopter pilot and mingled with other celebrities in attendance.
Although both Harry and Meghan attended the event last year, the Duchess was reportedly ill and unable to attend this year’s awards.
Nevertheless, body language expert Judi James believes Harry thrived in the spotlight, speaking exclusively to the Mirror: “Harry’s body language here suggests that he is totally in his element and delighted to be soaking up or even surfing the on-stage adulation from the A-list audience like a star of the show.”
“His open jacket; his gleefully beaming smile at the audience, and that cheeky, knowing, thumbs-up gesture all suggest he is in full show-boating mode here, like some of his ‘rock star’ style appearances on stage when he first arrived in the US.”
James said: “While the two award recipients stand together looking tentative, Harry is in full splay mode, stretching an arm out to grab one man on the shoulder in a very informal display of recognition. His hand mic, that signal of who is in charge, is held high to his face, which is turned upward and away, with his head tilted and his chest puffed to suggest a moment of complete confidence during this solo outing.”
The body lanugage expert added: “In 2023, Harry and Meghan were seen at this event in a series of awkward-looking poses from Harry and a tricky microphone moment from Meghan, but this year his status and level of involvement looks clearer and his mic management far more adept.”

Harry has embarked on a solo trip to the Big Apple, where he is due to speak at several high-profile events that coincide with the United Nations General Assembly. Upon arriving in the city, he attended a dinner hosted by the World Health Organisation last night.
At the event, Harry was spotted mingling with Queen Mathilde of Belgium and Hollywood actor Forest Whitaker, honoring survivors of childhood violence.
Harry is slated to attend several high-profile events during his visit to New York this week. Later today, he will speak at a summit hosted by the Concordia organization about the Diana Award, named in honor of his late mother Princess Diana, which recognizes young leaders.
In addition, tomorrow he will participate in the 2024 Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting. The Foundation, established by former President Bill Clinton and supported by his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and their daughter Chelsea, has themed this year’s gathering of political, business, and philanthropic leaders as “What’s Working.”
At the meeting, Harry intends to discuss the launch of The Archewell Foundation Parents’ Network, a project aimed at assisting parents whose children have been harmed or lost due to online dangers. He will also talk about his nonprofit’s partnership with the World Health Organization and other entities to combat violence against children, a topic he and his wife Meghan highlighted during their recent visit to Colombia.
